May 31, 2009

Well today was the big day! You are now 99 days old (yes, our celebrations are in fact 1 day early). Soon you’ll be driving, getting married, and applying for Social Security. Today began early as we all woke and got you ready for the trip over to Sakae Shrine near the renamed Hotel Fujita Fukui. We had the priest pray for you during your 30 day birthday so we didn’t do anything special this time at the shrine. I hope you don’t think of us as cheap (though otosan was quite funny as he wanted a picture of him putting 1000 yen into the donation box… is that all his granddaughter was worth? Hehe). The family prayed and took a billion photos, and you looked so adorable in your white dress and red kimono. Daddy even wore a suit. After the shrine we went back home and sat down to eat OmedeTAI. We put a little rice, and a little fish to your lips and then, we took it away. You must have been quite angry because you began to cry, especially when you saw me eating off your new dishes. GOMEN. Later that night we all went to my students house who was hosting a small get together to celebrate his leaving to America for college. Your dad cooked some deviled eggs (with Japanese ingredients) and they were a hit with everyone there. I hope I can cook good food for you too when you become older. You left from the party after an hour, and I missed you immensely for the rest of the night.
